CLOG-MANIA – the ugly or beautiful?

Clogs in my opinion have always been three things – clumpy, chunky, and totally unattractive, simply, just why?

And yet, surprisingly to my despair CLOG-MANIA has hit the runways and started to seep down to the high street over these past few months, with celebrities such as Alexa Chung jumping aboard the clog boat – but can my clog-prejudice be reformed? A fashion monstrosity or the perfect statement ‘IT’ shoe for the coming season?

Karl Lagerfeld – Chanel, Jimmy Choo, and Miu Miu have all put their spin on the clog this year…the Chanel clog…

Alexa jumps on the clog band-waggon…

Dare I say it I love how Chanel has contrasted the masculinity of the shoe with the dainty and extra feminine fabrics, cuts, ruffles and shades for their S/S collection – they do actually work. Alexa also looks effortlessly chic in her Chanel clogs, without looking ‘foot-heavy’, they seem to balance out her frame perfectly (but then again Alexa manages to make everything work). Wearing these clogs will definitely give you the height to strut down the high street looking, and feeling like a model who has just stepped off the runway.

In all shapes and sizes, here is the best of what the high street has to offer…can you be converted?

Topshop Pebble Tassle Clogs £72

Topshop Prima Sling Clogs £80

Topshop Lia 2 Part Clog Sandals £58

Topshop Lottie Clog Mules £65

Oasis Clogs £55 each – due for launch in the next couple of weeks, please go to for more information.

Office Justa Lotta Love Mid-heeled Clogs £60

Pair all the above wooden clogs with a maxi or smock summer dress, in a pastel or neutral shade, or with a ditsy print. The denim/ rustic marriage always seems to work perfectly too. This is also a great way to mix and match key trends for the summer.

GET THE LOOK (if the clog isn’t for you)

Deanne sandals from Faith now £58.50, originally £65 (Faith are currently in administration so stock levels may fluctuate from store to store)

Topshop Piper Buckle Stilettos £120

Topshop Lauren Strappy Platform Sandal £50

Topshop Woody Suede Wedges £50

Apologies for most of these shoe choices coming from Topshop, but they really do have the best selection!!!

I can’t say I am ready to enter the ‘ugly’ world of the clog as of yet, but I maybe half way there – I am sure I can make some space in my wardrobe for a pair of statement wooden-heeled sandals this summer – well if it works for Chanel, it works for me.
